Narragansett, Rhode Island –¬†January 8, 2012 -Captain Steve Arnold and crew experienced what no fisherman ever wants to.¬† On this day, the fishing vessel Elizabeth Helen sank approximately 3 miles northeast of Block Island while hauling back her catch just before 4pm. The United States Coast Guard pulled both captain and crew to safety, with no injuries. The 55-foot Elizabeth Helen experienced rare tide and wind conditions causing the boat to tip on its side and eventually sink.

Wild Rhody would like to thank all of those who have sent out their kind words and well wishes during this hard time. We are all grateful to have Captain Steve and crew back on land and home safe.

This event reminds us that commercial fishing, like so many other professions, brings extreme risk and danger every day. In this instance, Captain Steve had both proper training and equipment on board that aided in his rescue. However, his calm demeanor and clear thinking is surely, what saved his life.

Wild Rhody will be working diligently over the next few weeks to maintain availability and deliveries. We ask that you please be patient with us during this time.
